DIY Shawl Caftan

This DIY was inspired by these caftans HERE and HERE. Caftans are the perfect compliment to a summer wardrobe. Light, loose and airy to beat the heat. They also work well thrown over a swim suit or for just lounging around the house. Here is what you will need to make one:

1. A large shawl/scarf. I used one approximately 28x72 in. that is pashmina, but most similar sizes and any fabric type will work.
2. Basic sewing supplies.

How to make it: Hopefully my diagram above helps! Take the shawl and fold it in half on the long side. Cut a U shape on the fold for a neck hole. Turn raw seams under and sew. Then sew from the bottom up on each side leaving an opening for your arms. I used an 8 in. opening for the armholes that begins from the fold down. Now your caftan should be ready to wear!
