The Beacon blanket coat

vintage 1940s pattern via Elegant Musings

It's been a few months since I've added anything to my personal vintage wardrobe, but I recently added this coat. It's from around the 1940s and is hand sewn from a Beacon Blanket. If you don't know what Beacon blankets are they are cotton camp blankets produced from the 1920-50s in bold Native American motifs. You can read more about them HERE. Acquiring a good clean Beacon blanket today can be pricey and garments made out of recycled blankets are far less common. So I'm happy to have found a sport coat with such a cool history and pattern!
