Art and Design: Phenakistoscope discs

A phenakistoscope disc came across my Pinterest stream recently and I was extremely intrigued and had to find out what it was. Phenakistoscopes were invented in the mid 1800s and were an early animation device where images where printed on discs and put on a spinning rod. The end result was the illusion of movement. You can read more about them HERE. Some of the designs are quite clever and charming. Enjoy!
